Due to their high REDOX capacity, flavonoids in biological preparations are unstable, sensitive, easily destroyed, have poor permeability and low bioavailability to environmental stress (heat, light, oxidation and pH, etc.). There are still many problems to be solved in the clinical application of flavonoids extract, such as extraction instability, complex composition, toxicity risk and so on.

Cyclodextrin is a kind of oligosaccharide with three-dimensional hollow ring structure, which can wrap the hydrophobic part of the substance in a non-polar cavity. The hydrophilic part is exposed to increase the overall water solubility together with the hydroxyl group of cyclodextrin at the outer end. It is non-toxic and stable to light, heat and alkali, and is often used as an embedding material for active substances. The biggest advantage of cyclodextrin encapsulation flavonoids is to improve its water solubility. The solubility of naringin was increased from 36±1μM to 15.8± 1.4mm by 437 times by embedding hydroxypropyl betadex.
